This week is a double-parsha, Vayakhel-Pekudei. In parshat Vayakhel, the building of the Tabernacle, or Mishcan, commences. Moses collects gifts from the Israelites of materials that will be used to build it, and he invites the people with the skills to make the Tabernacle, it’s furnishings, and the priests’ clothes. God singles gives the skills to construct the Mishkan to Bezalel and Oholiab. The tabernacles curtains, coverings, boards, the ark, the golden menorah, and the altar.
In parshat Pekudei, the making of the Mishkan finishes. Bezalel, Oholiab and their coworkers make the priest's clothes. Moses blesses the people who made the tabernacle and then God tells Moses to put the Tabernacle together, and he does. Once he has completed his work, God’s presence takes on the form of a cloud, and God covers the Tabernacle.
