It’s hurricane season, and recently Hurricane Ida severely damaged parts of states such as Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and more. It is traveling northeast, passing through states such as West Virginia and New Jersey as one of the worst storms the U.S. has ever seen, with a death toll of over 60 so far. It is so important that we know how to prepare and deal with hurricanes ourselves, help give aid to those affected by natural disasters, and inform others how to do the same. As a category 4 storm, Ida hit parts of the U.S. so hard, the streets are flooded, buildings are destroyed, power lines are broken, and so many are left without a place to go. Disaster strategies runs a hotline, specifically designed to help disabled people in trouble because of a natural disaster. The World Central Kitchen at https://wck.org/ has been providing meals to those in need in areas heavily affected by the hurricane, and need more support for their emergency relief efforts. Another great group is Mutual Aid Disaster relief at https://mutualaiddisasterrelief.org, which not only responds to disasters, but provides education about how to deal with natural disasters and how to prepare for them. Finally, the Red Cross, which you can find at https://www.redcross.org is an amazing organization that could always use donations.
