Sorry I skipped out on the last two weeks. Anyway, this week’s parsha, Beha'alotcha, God God tells Moses about the role of the Levites, explaining how the Levites will be cleansed through being sprinkled with special water, shaving their bodies, and washing their clothes. God says that Levites would work in the Tent of Meeting from ages 25 to 50, after which they could retire. God tells Moses about the holiday of Passover. The parsha tells us that the Tabernacle was covered by a cloud during the daytime and a fire at night. When the cloud left that position, the Israelites followed the cloud until it settled, and the Israelites set up camp there. God outlines a system in which various numbers of trumpet blasts signal different things, such as people assembling at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
The Israelites complain, wishing that they had meat to eat. Moses asks God for help, and God says that if the Israelites purify themselves, there would be meat the next day. God brings the people quail, which they eat, but then God strikes the people with a plague. Mirriam, Moses’s sister gets this plague after speaking against Moses. Moses prays to God, saying, “Oh, God, pray heal her,” which is the phrase that we use in the prayer in which we ask for healing of people in our community.
